Feeling Used? It's Time to Reclaim Your Energy (and Your Worth!)

Let's be honest, we've all been there. That sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realise the relationship, be it a friendship, a romantic connection, or even a work dynamic, is feeling… unbalanced. You're pouring your energy, time, and resources into someone, and getting little to nothing in return. You're essentially being used.

Ouch. That hurts, right? But here's the good news: acknowledging this imbalance is the first and most crucial step towards reclaiming your power and setting yourself free. It's time to shift the focus back to you.

So, what can you do when you realise you're giving more than you're getting?

1. Acknowledge Your Feelings (Without Judgment):

First, let's validate that feeling of being used. It's a complex mix of hurt, anger, and maybe even a little self-blame. Don't push these feelings down. Allow yourself to feel them, acknowledge them, and understand that they're a perfectly normal reaction to being taken advantage of. Journaling can be a powerful tool here. Write down what you're feeling, what triggered this realization, and how it's impacting your overall well-being.

2. Set Boundaries (And Stick to Them!):

This is the big one. Boundaries are the invisible lines we draw that define what we're comfortable with and what we're not. Re-evaluate your relationship with this person. Where are you overextending yourself? Where are you saying "yes" when you really want to say "no?" Start small. Decline requests that drain you. Be honest (but kind) about your limitations.

For example, instead of always being available for late-night calls, try saying, "I'm not available tonight, but I can catch up tomorrow." Or, instead of taking on extra work that isn't your responsibility, politely decline, explaining you're currently focused on your primary tasks.

3. Reconnect With Your Own Needs and Desires:

When you're busy giving, it's easy to lose sight of your own needs and desires. What makes you happy? What activities fill your cup? Dedicate time to things you enjoy, whether it's reading, hiking, painting, or simply relaxing in a hot bath. Prioritise self-care. Remember that you are worthy of love, attention, and happiness, independent of what you give to others.

4. Seek Support from Trusted Sources:

Talking to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist can provide valuable perspective and support. Sometimes, it's hard to see the situation clearly when you're in the thick of it. An outsider's perspective can help you identify patterns and develop strategies for moving forward.

5. Consider the Healing Power of Equine Assisted Reiki

If you're feeling emotionally drained and struggling with your energy levels, Equine Assisted Reiki can be a powerful tool for healing and restoration. Equine Assisted Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and balances the body's energy flow, in the gentle companionship of horses. With the help or horses in nature you release the negative energy associated with feeling used and reconnect with your inner strength.

How Reiki and the Reiki Precepts Can Help:

Just for today, do not anger: Feeling used can understandably trigger anger. Reiki can help you find a state of calm and acceptance, allowing you to process your anger without letting it consume you.

Just for today, do not worry: The uncertainty of the future and the fear of being taken advantage of again can lead to worry. Reiki can help you ground yourself in the present moment and trust in the universe.

Just for today, be grateful: Even in challenging situations, there are things to be grateful for. Reiki can help you cultivate a sense of gratitude for the good things in your life, shifting your focus away from negativity.

Just for today, work honestly: This precept encourages integrity in all aspects of your life. Setting boundaries and prioritizing your own well-being is an act of honesty towards yourself.

Just for today, be kind to yourself and others: Kindness starts with yourself. Treat yourself with the same compassion and understanding you would offer a friend in need.

6. Learn From the Experience:

Finally, use this experience as an opportunity for growth. Reflect on the red flags you might have missed, the patterns you need to break, and the lessons you've learned about healthy relationships. This isn't about blaming yourself, but about empowering yourself to make better choices in the future.

Realising you're being used is a painful experience, but it's also a powerful catalyst for change. By acknowledging your feelings, setting boundaries, prioritising your well-being, and seeking support, you can reclaim your energy, build stronger relationships, and create a life filled with joy and fulfillment.

Remember, you deserve to be valued, respected, and appreciated for who you are. And that starts with valuing, respecting, and appreciating yourself.
